FAQs

What people have been asking us over the years

  1. Where have you played? As far south as Dumfries and as far north as Elgin. From the Crook of Devon Village Hall to the Balmoral Hotel, George Hotel, Roxburgh Hotel, Dalmahoy CC, and Norton House Hotel in Edinburgh. And loads in between.
  2. What sort of music do you play? The sort that comes on CDs. We also try to play the stuff that people dance to.
  3. How much ceilidh do you do? We’ll do as much or as little as you or guests can handle. We tend to mix ceilidh and disco throughout the night, with 1 ceilidh dance and then maybe 4-5 disco songs. Generally we do each ceilidh dance twice and we usually change the music for the second version. Towards the end of the night the disco tends to be more popular. But there’s no formula and we’re totally flexible. We prefer not to do two distinct halves though, coz ceilidh-ing is hard work and people need a rest in between.
  4. Do you bring someone to help with the ceilidh steps? Yes! The dedicated ceilidh caller is there to do just that. Sometimes he even does the dances! And he's quite persuasive. We’re not one of those outfits that brings a DJ who plays some ceilidh tunes and leaves you to get on with it. You get the full ceilidh experience, without the musicians.
  5. Can I choose the music? Yes! But we recommend you don’t choose too much: 12-15 is a good number to give us a flavour of your likes and dislikes. Don’t forget that not everyone has the same taste in music, so your choices may not be to everyone’s liking. We always take requests on the night so that everyone gets a chance to pick their favourite tunes.
  6. What first dances have people asked for? Downloadable list on the way.
  7. What equipment do you use? Full list on the way.
  8. What's the most annoying venue you've been to? College Hall in St Andrews. Carrying all the gear up to the first floor via the external fire escape is just not funny.
  9. What ceilidh dances do you do? All the old favourites: Dashing White Sergeant, Strip the Willow, St Bernard’s Waltz, Military Two-Step, Canadian Barn Dance. Some less well-known ones: Flying Scotsman, Eightsome Reel, Britannia Two-Step, Eva Three-Step. Our signature dance: The Virginia Reel. And anything else by popular request.
  10. Do you do karaoke? Nay, nay and thrice nay.
  11. Can we come and see you before we make a booking? We understand that people like to know what they're going to get for their money, so we're happy for you to see us in action before you commit. Just let us know and we'll do our best. Please bear in mind that a lot of our bookings are weddings and we need to ask the bride & groom if you can sneak in!
  12. What charity events have you done? Sally Cooper's Ball 3 years running, and 2 years for Maggies Glasgow.
  13. Where are you based? We're based on the west side of Edinburgh. Which means we're ideally placed for Fife, central Scotland, Grampian and beyond, Strathclyde and the Scottish Borders. Not to mention Englandshire.
